Step by Step Guide: How to install Mac OS X on a VAIO with iAtkos 1.0 r2

how I installed iAtkos on my Sony VAIO VGN FE41M, so I'm going to make a little Step by Step Guide about it. This Guide should work for every Sony VAIO Model in the last 2 years which has a Core 2 Duo. Many Acer Nootebooks have similar parts to VAIO so it might work on your Acer, too.

Okay at first, Thanks to Uphuck, OSX.Turk, Apple and the osx86 scene for developing such great products and releases.

First you need the iAtkos 1.0 r2 DVD Image. You can Download it from YouTorrent (you need a torrent client) in the 1.0 r2 Version or check out for other releases and download them. But don't forget to apply the r2 patch. If you don't want to use Torrent, in the next days I'm going to upload it to iAtkos Social Blog.

After you have downloaded the Image, burn it to a blank DVD. Burn Slow, don't use RWs and Burn with good Software.

Important: Backup all your Data on a external Drive or some DVD's.

Now turn off your PC, insert the DVD and boot. When the countdown starts, press enter. Now Darwin Boot should load, after that a grey Apple screen comes up. This takes about 5 to 10 minutes to load. If you're PC hangs on the grey Apple screen (if it takes more than 15 min. to load), then check out my tommorows Blog post. I'll give you some solutions there.

After loading, press the round button, and wait while it's "prepairing installation". After that go to "Utilities", than go to Disk Utility. Select your Hard Drive. Go to "Partioning", select 1 partion (or how much you need...) and click on erease. Go to Security and take a look if "MBR/Master Boot Record" is selected.

After that notice your Harddisk and Partion Number where you want to install Leopard on, and close the Disk Utility.

Go to Utilities --> Darwin Boot. Select Y, then enter your Hard Drive number, then your Partion Number you've noticed before. After that you can select or deselect EFI. For my Vaio EFI didn't work, it rebooted the whole time after the installation. If you think it wil work on your VAIO then select it with "y". After that wait some seconds and the Patching is finished. Now Close Terminal (ALT GR + Q) and continue the installation.

Select the Partion, then click continue and then click Customize. Okay, click on Patches and select EFI, but only if you patched it already in Darwin Boot. If you don't want EFI, select nothing from the Patches menu.

Now let's go to the Drivers. Most of the last VAIO's use Intel for Network, because of that select the Intel Driver in the Network menu.

Now the Graphic Drivers. There are a lot of problems with the VAIO graphic cards. When I frist time installed iAtkos on my Vaio, I have a NVidia Card, so I selected NVInject 256 vRam (that's how much vRam I have.) I installed it properly and after the instllation the PC booted, there was the Apple Grey Screen and after some seconds the screen became black with some blue and green lines. I reinstalled it and used Natit. Same Problem. Then I used all the other Drivers. Always same problem. At the end i didn't take any driver and it worked well. (Okay, I have only a VESA resolution.) So try which works for you.

If you got a Intel Graphic Card, there should be no Problems.

Okay, now let's install Leopard. This takes about 20 minutes.

After that reboot into Leopard, then the "Welcome" Video comes.

If you want that Video: Go into the "/System/Library/CoreServices" folder and control-click on "Setup Assistant". Click on "Show Package Contents". In the package, go into the "Contents" folder and then the "Resources" folder. Control-click on "TransitionSection.bundle" and click on "Show Package Contents".
Again, go into the "Contents" folder and then the "Resources" folder.
You'll find the "intro-sound.mp3" and "intro.mov" files there.

After that enter you're Data, Accounts, etc. If you stuck at "Transfer from antoher Mac", just reboot your Vaio and evrything should work well.

Welcome to the World of Mac OS X. I hope you liked my little Guide.
